Huffington Post picked Baker Industries for its JobRaising Challenge!

  • February 1, 2013

The Huffington Post picked Baker Industries, a nonprofit work rehabilitation program in Malvern, to be part of an awesome campaign called JobRaising and we're out to raise as much money as possible so we can win a $150,000 donation! We think we can win and we definitely need your help.  For inspiration, read our blog on the Huffington Post.

Here's what we need you to do...

Please click here and give whatever you can. Every donation helps.

Keep in mind: Baker Industries does not accept government funding. About 70% of the revenue needed to meet our annual expenses comes from payment for the jobs we do for our customers. The balance comes from charitable donations from individuals and organizations.

More than 20 million Americans are unemployed or underemployed. The JobRaising Challenge will help job-creating nonprofits like us raise money, raise awareness and help put Americans back to work.

Baker Industries AKA Convict Industries. Although Baker Industries does hire adults with intellectual and physical disabilities, most of the employees are convicts and parolees. When the employees get out of work, they walk to the Malvern train station to go back to Philly. They whistle and make cat calls to the high school girls walking around. A couple of the thugs last year harassed my niece and her friends who goes to Villa Maria when they would stop at the King Street Wawas. I know the Police are always dealing with them.

Kudos to Baker Industies for providing a second chance to people who need it! I purchased a couple of their recycled banner bags and loved them. To the commenter above... I have worked at a number of places whose employees could be just as rude and obnoxious - those types of people can be found in a lot of places, Baker's doesn't have a monopoly on that type of behavior. It is unfair of you to criticize the entire organization because of one or two bad apples. Good luck to Baker's and thank you for providing a much needed service!
