Malvern Mural Projects -- in collaboration with Malvern Pizza, Malvern Business and Professional Association, Borough Council, and the Historical Commission -- would like your feedback. Before we move forward with a full-color rendering and more details, we need to choose a design. This is a community-funded project and therefore we'd like the community to decide. Included in the survey are rough sketches of two different design ideas. All images are of historical significance during Malvern's founding in the Victorian Era, around the turn of the century. The first artistic depiction is a montage and the second impression is a street scene. Please review the rough sketches and scroll to the bottom of the survey to vote before March 15th.

We have had such a wonderful response that all of the "signature" spots on the Malvern Pizza wall are full - which is a good thing. We still have several spots on the Gallaghers/Train Station wall available. https://www.facebook.com/MalvernMuralProject

I like both but ended up voting for number 2 as it had a better "flow" to it. I would love to see the Battlefield and monument depicted but they were too close to the walking couple in the first sketch. Perhaps there's a way to add it to the 2nd sketch.. If not, perhaps it can be added to the 2nd mural.

Thanks Susan. The current inspiration for the second mural is "patriotism." An artist is currently working on research and designs. Paoli Battlefield and our Memorial Parade are very significant to Malvern. The second mural needs to be a bigger, bolder design that can be seen from a distance or quickly passing by, so I imagine it will be quite different.

Is Malvern Pizza covering up their larger window on the bottom right and the one on the addition? Both drawings omit the large window and #2 omits the one on the addition. Just curious.

Eliminate the man and woman caricature from both and either would look nice. Are they based on a photo or painting of former residents or are they fantasy caricatures?

Malvern Pizza will be covering up the large double window and the back window on the addition.

So we don't offend all the people against the Malvern improvements I think the mural should include some run down empty buildings and consignment shops.

LOL I love this town. The murals are a great way to honor our history, create beautiful landmarks, and add some more charm to our downtown landscape as the Borough undergoes some exciting changes.

Steve: The empty buildings etc. are an art form that has been a part of Ye Olde Boro for its history! They come, they go!

Kristin, did you get my mom's email that I sent you?

By the way, I don't like #2 as it's inaccurate in terms of time and space. The Montage (#1) also isn't, but it's format doesn't give a false impression of these buildings having been so close to one another.
Can't we add something to the Montage to use the small part of the building?

Hi, no I did not get an email. bryanandkristinthomas@hotmail.com
You are correct, #1 isn't 100% accurate with the actual placement of buildings in relation to one another on a real map, but there are too many to fit onto one small wall. It is an artistic impression - a painting - of Victorian Era life in Malvern and we are lucky to be able to include as many historic properties as we have. Please send me an email.

Why don't we go with historical faces instead of historical places; i.e., people like Mayor Fred Thomas, Lou Thomas, Doc Rado, Roland Ewing, George Highly, Lew Atkinson, John Buffington, Police Chief Bill Cockerham, Catherine Annear, Mary Wallace Wilson, Jack Blackburn, Horace Quann, Lou Valentine, and others who were standouts in the true golden age of Malvern? I know we'd have a super selection from which to choose!

That is a great idea. We are too far along with these two murals, but there is always potential for a third. You never know. But where?

I wonder if there is a spot on the wall at the east end of Eastside Flats for a mural? I voted for #1 but I like the idea of eliminating the couple and expanding the battlefield a little bit. Thanks for your work in this project.
