It was 35 years ago at just about this time in June that I wrote (in my Malvern Monitor column in The Suburban Advertiser) of the dangers of riding my bike during rush hour traffic on King Street. (I hit the "Enter" sign at the Savings & Loan on the corner of King and Powellton with comedic results and standing ovation from the drivers who witnessed it!) I rode my bike all over town that year to the "Rocky" theme song in an effort to lose weight. I should still be riding it. Anyway, I am proud to have been the prophetic harbinger of this wonderful ride -- and even more elated at the fact that traffic will be banned from the route. Wouldst that it woulda, coulda, shoulda been so when I made a fool of myself back in '77. Busted my spokes!

Having trouble interpreting the map. The race appears to go from Warren to first Ave, then to Poswelton and back to King St. the detour map that was sent out gives first Ave as part of the detour. will there be traffic allowed on that stretch of first ave during th races or does the course turn at Monument rather than first. Anyone know the answer?

Barbara, I received a voicemail that the map may not accurately reflect the course. I modeled it on a press release I was given, but am on vacation now so can't check to see if I made an error. Apologies of that's the case.

Not sure what roads will be closed but I do know the course starts in front of
Malvern Pizza and goes east right onto Woodland then Right onto Roberts, Left onto Warren and Right onto Monument, right onto Powelton and right back onto King.

OK I did not realize that this Tour was so big. I felt bad for the businesses on King St. The Flaggers should have suggested which way to go to get around. How about next year we move it to Memorial Park- lots of space only inconveniences 3 homes or 15 homes depending how its set up. Has lites for the nite, easier parking. It was really cool to watch!!!

Don't feel bad for the businesses that were open. Go ask the Flying Pig or Malvern Pizza how business was. The Pig was packed the entire time despite their usual poor service and mediocre food. The idea of these crits is to have them in the town center. If you want to see what an established one is like and what it can do for the downtown area bushiness's . Check out the Iron Hill Crit in downtown West Chester this Saturday the 7th. It is in it's 8th year running.
