Blotter: Booby-Trapped Campaign Signs, Octogenarian DUI

Arrest information was supplied by the Malvern Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

DUI… Oct. 18, at 3:20 p.m., an 83-year-old Haverford woman was arrested for driving under the influence. The woman allegedly hit another car then drove her Volvo onto the lawn of a house on Crestside Way near Sugartown Road, hitting a pine tree. Three small bottles of Bailey's Irish Crème were found in her car. She was taken to Paoli Hospital, where she had blood drawn and was found to be uninjured from the crash.

Theft… On Oct. 18, police received a report of stolen property from the 100 block of Old Lincoln Highway. The theft had occurred some time in the previous week. A homeowner claimed that a large, steel cake-mixer valued at $1,000 was stolen off his property, along with a piece of exercise equipment valued at $200.

Burglary… On Oct. 21, a priest at. St Patrick School discovered a burglar in the building. The burglar, a 54-year-old homeless man from New York, did not take anything before fleeing. Malvern Police apprehended the man, Larry Ellis, with assistance from neighboring departments.

Theft… On Oct. 22, around 3 p.m., police received a report of missing yard tools and cleaning supplies from a Nolan Drive residence. A weed whacker valued at $100 to $200 and other items were removed from the garage and kitchen.

Criminal mischief…  An officer was making a check of the Malvern train station on Nov. 3 at 1:35 a.m. when he was approached by a man who said that he'd seen people taking or defacing Obama campaign signs in recent weeks. The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said "committee members" decided to put barbed wire in the signs to stop the perpetrators. The officer subsequently checked a sign at Old Lincoln Highway and Bridge, and found barbed wire attached to the frame.

HF James, thanks for posting your comment to Malvern Patch. I removed it because it had identifying information about the victims of crime. If you would post it again with that information redacted, I would be happy to leave it up. Thanks,
Pete

I hardly think that putting barbed wire on a sign is 'booby trapping'... If that is the case there are a TON of farms booby trapping their fields in Malvern.

The Merrian-Webster definition fits: "a trap for the unwary or unsuspecting : pitfall." Barbed wire along a fence is a different story.
