Chai Praise for Caffè Craze Owner
Dawn Lewis's Chaikhana Chai was named one of the best teas in North America.
Caffè Craze owner Dawn Lewis received some good news recently—one of her signature blends was ranked third-best in North America by World Tea Media.
Lewis's Chaikhana Chai was took third place in the "Instant Black - Flavored" category in the organization's North American Tea Championship.
A Seattle native, she has owned the cafe at the Malvern Septa station since 1997. She brews the Chaikhana Chai concentrate in 350 gallon batches in Maryland, and sells it in her cafe, on the web and in local establishments like Restaurant Alba, Classic Diner and Burlap and Bean.
Lewis said she created the drink herself when she couldn't find a good chai to sell in her cafe. A press release (attached to this article as a PDF), details what gives the chai its distinctive taste:
"Hand selected, premium whole ingredients including fair trade and organic tea, ginger root, fresh crushed spices, vanilla beans and local honey are brewed together in a unique, micro-brew process ensuring the rich infusion of flavors and healthful benefits that only real ingredients can offer.
Caffè Craze was closed for more than a year while Malvern train station underwent renovations. It reopened in November 2011 and is now open Monday to Friday from 6 to 10:30 a.m.
