Face Paint, Ponies And Produce At Fall Fest And Fair, Saturday
The combined event takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Okehocking Preserve.
At long last, the Okehocking Fall Fest and Willistown Country Fair come to town this Saturday, Sept. 17.
The Greentree Country Fair had some bad luck this year, getting rained out of two fair dates in August—including one on Hurricane Irene weekend. So, Willistown Parks and Recreation Department Director Mary McLoughlin decided to combine the fair with the Okehocking Fall Fest, which will also celebrate the opening of the new Okehocking Nature Center.
There will be entertainment for children and adults, including hayrides, pony rides, face painting and a petting zoo for the little ones. Tours will be given of the Okehocking Nature Center, located at the Garrett Farm House in Okehocking, and a number of community groups will have booths to hand out information or oversee activities.
See the full list of animals in the petting zoo.
The list includes Paoli Hospital, Activate Chester County, Main Line Y Environmental Center, Malvern Library, Paoli Library, and Willistown Conservation Trust.
Senator Andy Dinniman's office will also have a booth with some environmental information available, and Dinniman will likely make an appearance.
"He was instrumental in us [receiving] a planning grant for the Okehocking Nature Center," Mcloughlin explained.
And what's a country fair without a little competition? Attendees can enter the prize produce, herb and flower arrangement competitions until 5:30, with judging to start at 6 and awards given at 6:30 p.m.
Jimmy's BBQ and Whirled Peace will be selling food, and have pledged to donate 10 percent of sales to the Greentree playground equipment fund, headed up by Friends of Greentree Park.
Local bluegrass band the Thornbury Ramblers will provide the country fair-style soundtrack for the night.
"There's going to be so many fun things for everyone—hayrides, pony rides, face painting, book making, nature crafts," Willistown Park Director Mary Mcloughlin said. "It should be a beautiful fall day at Okehocking."
The Okehocking Fall Fest and Willistown Country Fair take place this Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Okehocking Preserve, 5316 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square. Enter at the Delchester Road entrance (going east on West Chester Pike, turn left onto Delchester Road).
