Free Gun Locks Available at Malvern Police Department
The department still has plenty of free locks distributed through a Justice Department grant.
If you own a firearm and need a gunlock, stop by the Malvern Police Department to pick one up for free.
The locks aren't new — they arrived at the station a while ago as part of a federal grant through Project Childsafe, a program that claims to have distributed more than 35 million gun safety kits throughout the country. But the Malvern Police still have more than a few ready for use.
Project Childsafe operates under the auspices Project Safe Neighborhood, a U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) program, in cooperation with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF).
The locks available at the Malvern Police Department come with a pamphlet containing instructions on how to install the lock on autoloading pistols, revolvers, shotguns and rifles. The pamphlet also contains other safety tips.
For more information about Project Childsafe—including a firearms safety video starring Travis Tritt—visit www.projectchildsafe.org.

Fellow gun owners. If you have young kids/grand kids around the house, please take advantage of these gun locks. I just assumed my kids would snoop as much as I did when I was young. When my kids were young, I secured each of my guns with a similar lock through the action, and each gun was again kept behind lock and key. The ammo was locked up separately. You can never be too careful. A responsible gun owner recognizes that kids will be kids.

Unfortunately, this goes against the current media myth that gun owners leave their loaded guns of mass destruction just lying about the house, probably on the kitchen counter, with the safety off. Remember, Nancy Lanza taught her son, Adam, how to be a killer and had him sleep with guns so he would develop a homicidal love for them.
Okay, all snark aside, gun locks are a great invention, and I highly endorse them. Being a gun owner is a huge responsibility, of course, and trigger locks show wisdom about safety and respect for guns.

Pete, I was in Malvern Pizza yesterday and the buzz is that the Malvern Boro Council is trying to disband the Malvern Police again!!! Something about a ballot question in May? I also heard that the Mayor is no longer living in Malvern and Chief Erconal is leaving. Do you have the scoop on this? We need to keep our police force!!!! Here we go again.

As an aside, how many gun owners with small children (or teens for that matter), take the time to show their kids the guns, let them see the guns, let them handle the guns, show them how the guns disassemble, and show them how to properly maintain and store said guns? Trigger locks are a great idea, but knowledge and education goes a long way, too.

We need to keep our police force!!! This is just like Woody VanSciver and Sandy Kelley to be sneaky like this. We all saw Woody's true colors last year at the public council meeting. It's really low trying to keep this a secret from the public. Pete, I heard council had a secret meeting on Tuesday night about this. Was this announced? I called the borough office earlier today to inquiring about all this and was politely told to mind my own business. Hope you get to the bottom of this!!!
