New Doghouse for Canine Creature Comforts

Did you notice the "Pardon the drool" signs on Route 30 in recent months?

Dogs don't speak English. That's one of the first things Amy Parsons tells many of her clients. To dogs, your voice sounds like one of the adults from a Peanuts cartoon.

"'Whan whan whan treat.' That's all they hear," Parsons said.

Parsons is co-owner and president of , a dog day care and training facility in Malvern. The company recently moved out of its Great Valley Center location and up the road to a new, larger building across from in Frazer.

Lancaster Avenue commuters might have noticed the signs posted along the thoroughfare in the weeks leading up to the move. Among them:

"Sit happens"

"Pardon the drool while under construction"

Parsons said she got the idea for the stealth campaign from another local business, , which didn't publicize its opening.

"There were no signs. I finally stopped by and asked a construction worker what was being built," Parsons said. "If people don't know what it is, it creates more buzz."

Canine Creature Comforts offers day care, overnight care and training for dogs. Parsons said what sets the company apart from other dog care centers is that, while many kennels offer overnight boarding, CCC has an employee on site 24 hours per day. Dogs are separated into big and little groups, and while some aggressive dogs are isolated, no breeds are prohibited.

Parsons, a Charlestown resident, was in corporate sales and marketing before moving to the canine sector a decade ago. She said she's never been bitten on the job and credits martial arts training with helping her handle problematic canines.

"You start to get into energy, breathing, heart rate. It really helps when dealing with dogs who want to eat you," she said. "They can tell if I hold my breath."

Canine Creature Comforts will host a Yappy Hour, with cocktails and light refreshments, Saturday, Feb. 11, from 2-4 p.m. at its new location, 286 Lancaster Ave.
