Emergency responders often spend Memorial Day participating in parades and barbecues. This year, Willistown Police and firefighters from Malvern and Goshen spent much of the day trying to rescue an injured cow from a pond on Goshen Road.
According to Malvern Fire Company:
Sometime overnight, a cow fell into a pond and became stuck in the mud. Station 4 responded with Ladder 4, TAC 4, Squad 4 and two chiefs.
Crews assisted a veterenarian from the Bolton Center in keeping the animal cool with both hoselines and a tent. Hoselines and webbing were used to create a harness, and a tractor was used to pull the animal from the mud.
Once freed, crews remained on scene for an extended period of time helping to keep the animal cool with a hoseline and assisting the veterenarian.
Malvern EMS crews were on scene for the incident providing rehab services to all on the scene during a very hot day.
Unfortunately, according to Willistown Police, the animal died the day after the rescue.
