University President Thanks Great Valley for Stellar Student

Franklin & Marshall University President Daniel Porterfield quoted Yeats to describe an F&M senior.

High school teachers and administrators are often asked to write letters of recommendation for seniors who are trying to get into prominent colleges.

At least one university president took the time to send a note back to Great Valley High School—a note of thanks.

Franklin & Marshall President Daniel Porterfield wrote a letter to Great Valley guidance counselor Chip Harvey, thanking him and his colleagues for their role in sending Lydia Bickel to the university.

Porterfield called Bickel "the passionate, serving kind, who gives her best to all she does and models the highest qualities of character," borrowing a phrase from poet William Butler Yeats.

Bickel will work in New Jersey through Teach for America after graduation, according to the letter.
