Visions For Vacancies: Former Knots and Weaves Location
What would you like to see move into this location at East King and Church streets?
While everyone wonders about what will be moving into the nascent development on East King Street in 2013, an existing, empty building sits across the street, ready for a new tenant.
Knots and Weaves formerly occupied the space at 304 E. King Street, but a bad fire in 2010 forced the company to relocate down the road. Click on the photos attached to this article to see the fire damage that has since been repaired.
The building has had a "For Rent" sign out front for a while.
What would you like to see take this large space in this space on East King Street? Tell us in the comments.

This would be a great location for a small coffee shop, deli or other gathering place. Malvern needs a few more of these

Cafe/coffee shop please with some great bakery items. There is municipal parking right across the side street. If they also serve ice cream in the summer that would be fantastic!

The Knots and Weaves folks have a great new place at 218 E. King (old Nesting Feathers bldg) and Pete & Chris P. did a great job fixing up their place here. Coffee, ice cream, sandwich shop sound good to me.

Please not another restaurant! There are more restaurants in Malvern than anybody could possibly ever need already. The last thing we need is yet another one.
A consignment store -- that's not just for women -- would be nice. A Hallmark or some similar card/gift store is another thing that would be good to have here. Anything but another restaurant!

I would love to have a bagel/donut or ice cream shop!

That was a pretty bad fire. The tenants who were living there at the time lost everything, although they were lucky to escape with their lives! One of the fire fighters was hurt pretty badly too.
The new renovations are beautiful! I'd love to see something of a gathering place there too. The front room with all the windows is conducive to that. In addition to ice cream (year round!) and coffee (cafe-type place), I'd like to see a knitting shop, book store (new or used), a bike shop, produce store (although I think the new Kimberton Whole Foods will cover that nicely). People need a place to take a break when shopping. Who wants to make a day of it if there isn't a place to sit and chill for a bit? Picture sitting in that front room in a comfy chair sipping coffee (or tea - a tea house!), eating a dish of ice cream, knitting a square for a charity blanket or browsing a book or two? Or getting a new bike tire tube and checking out your dream bike because of all the cool new trails in our area. And also because the traffic is just going to get worse so what better way to get around our new hoppin' town than on a bike!
I'm really thrilled about these new developments. I almost scared someone at work today with my excitement about Kimberton Whole Foods LOL!!

The fire happened just a few days before Malvern Patch launched (as East Whiteland Patch, at the time.) Yes, firefighter Lt. Jay Wustner was seriously injured: Here's Paoli Fire Company's description:
"Jay(as commonly called to around the firehouse) was operating on an exposure dwelling roof, next to 314 King Street in Malvern Borough, when he fell 20 feet of the roof landing on his feet, and subsequently fracturing both of his feet, and ankle's."

Hey Pete, I just searched their website to see if there was any news on how he's doing and I didn't see anything. I'm hoping he made a full recovery.

Can you all stand one more "comment" from me??? Rick K -- this was originally a facility that we affectionately called "Barenzano's Junk Yard" which was the 1940s-50s term for recycling, going green, consignment, etc. Rocky Barenzano was a visionary in that one man's trash is another man's treasure. I used to sit on the porch of Joe and Lois Barber's house across the street (now torn down for the "new" Noveau Malvern East project) and let my eyes roll over the inventory from a safe distance! My big brother Harry and his pals actually got to go in there and see for themselves what Rocky had on special for the day!!! Petite flower that I was had to stay on the Barbers' porch and play with their son Joey and dream of what might be in that treasure trove! Hey -- how about a Dollar Store???? You could've bought a lot of stuff in Quann's Hardware for a nickel or dime back in my time. Heck! You could've bought 10 cherry cokes at Mary Wilson's for a dollar back then, too!

I love your stories of the old Malvern days - keep them coming! My husband's family grew up in Malvern and I love their stories. I almost feel like I was there too. Having moved a lot growing up, Malvern is now the place I've lived the longest in my life (14 years!) and with all this new stuff coming, I'm not going anywhere! I've raised my kids here and it is home!

Great memories Regina-Quann's was the best, they had it all, you just needed someone to find it for you. The quandry is to find an entrepreneur willing to risk it all on a venture and something that isn't already represented in Malvern. Coffee shops? Julie-Anne's! Restaurants? got em in various forms. Deli type? can you say Wawa--yes, missing the sit down ambiance.... Consignments? Got em. What could go in there that is not already in town and succeed? Book store with Ches Co. Books future uncertain would be nice but can a bookstore succeed in today's technology? And what would draw folks into Malvern? A business cannot succeed on immediate local traffic alone. The building is absolutely gorgeous and hopefully someone with a great vision will put it to use.

I love Wawa for their coffee and to grab milk or some cat food when I don't have time to go to a grocery store but I can't stand their food. This spot would be great for a coffee shop that offers bagels, pastries and some snacks, especially considering the hub of activity which will be across the street. It would be a great gathering place for the community. The way in which is it set up works well for that.

I wish the area churches could get together and rent the space for our Teens.......maybe an ecumenical Malvern Christian-Coffee-Co-Op with great food, great beverages, and a focus on teens and community. Community focused and a healthy hangout for our kids with evening open mic time!!!

Agreeing with so many.... a coffee shop! Offering bagels, muffins, ice cream, etc. It would be nice to have one that is independently owned and not a chain store.

I looked at the space several times with the hopes of establishing a "spinning cycle" studio. It is a truly nice space and I would love to move this type of business into it but, there are tenants upstairs and "spinning cycle" studios generate quite a bit of noise that stems from music.

Oh, that would be fun. Maybe some sort of sound proofing or you could look into renting space in the new E. King St. development where sound might not be as big of an issue in new construction.

I love the idea of a spinning studio but I do believe we have already a Yoga studio, Pilates studio and a space for Zumba all on King Street. I think we need somewhere in Malvern where people can "hang out" other than Burke Park which is mainly used by children and teens. I wrote earlier suggesting a coffee shop that offered bagels and snacks, maybe with a small area of couches with wi-fi? Or a couple desks if there is room? Then people can use it to sit and hang out by themselves or with friends, and/or work. Just an idea! I am unsure of how it is laid out inside...

Jessica, I like it. Malvern Patch would certainly patronize such an establishment.

Plus another coffee shop at that point of King Street may help with the overflow of traffic in the Wawa parking lot.
