Editor's Note: The following information is from General Wayne Elementary School librarian Marilyn Rothberg.
April is National Poetry Month. For many years, “Keep a Poem in Your Pocket Day” has been celebrated at General Wayne. We will continue this fun tradition on Thursday. BUT THIS YEAR, we are bringing poetry to the town of Malvern!!! We hope that your family will consider visiting the businesses of Malvern that afternoon. Have your student go into a store that has our special poster and share a poem from their pocket. They may even be given a little “treat” by the store owners. This is being coordinated by the General Wayne Elementary School, the Malvern Public Library’s and the Malvern Business & Professional Association.
Please make sure to visit the following stores who have agreed to welcome our poetry readers!!!! We hope to have a lot of our students visit these stores:
- Baldwin’s Brass
- Eclectic Home Furnishings
- King Street Traders
- Kiss and Make Up
- Kohlerman Pharmacy
- Malvern Flowers
- Malvern Pizza
- Nota Bene Boutique
- One Stop Kid Shop
- Pisano & Son Shoe Repair
- Robert Michaels Salon
- Turning Pointe Dance Center
- UpHome Furnishings
- Worrell’s Butcher Shop
- Beam’s Music (on Route 30) – they even have a stage!!!!
- and others…..
We are hoping to start a “Keep a Poem in Your Pocket Day” tradition in Malvern with this first annual event!

Thanks Mrs. Rothberg and Malvern Businesses... The Bassill kids had a great afternoon reading their poems to the many eager ears!
