The outcome of the Presidential election has me feeling relieved and hopeful and reflecting on an earlier post in which I railed about the anger and divisiveness that has beset our country.
Though I hold strong opinions on politics and religion and women's rights and social issues and everything that seems to divide us, I've never understood why many people of differing opinions can't get along.
If my criteria for relationships was that I would only have friends who shared my beliefs, I would be very lonely indeed.
In the words of Thomas Jefferson:
"I never consider a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy, as cause for withdrawing from a friend."
In fact, I am all the richer for having such friends as they often open my eyes to things I wouldn't otherwise see.

Regina.
The results of the recent election have left me distressed and without hope. Perhaps your focus on "social issues" has blinded you to the fact that bHo has spent the past four years flailing about making our once great country weaker at every turn. Does the Bengahzi (sp) cover up not worry you? Does the fact that the "Arab Spring", a euphemism for jihadist revolution, not trouble you? Stalemate in the Middle East was anchored on the fact that our allies, while not perfect, protected the balance.
In a few months bHo's new taxes and regulations will be enacted.
Your kids are young. My kids are out there trying to make their way. Part of me wants to downsize so they can't move back in, the other part of me wishes I could provide them shelter till the storm blows over.
Sure. We can still be friends. But remember.
Prior to an election, we say "may the best man (woman) win". In this case the best man didn't win.
Get ready friend. It's about to get ugly.

area man,
"Benghazi cover up"??? Where are your facts that actually prove that there was a "cover up"? - There is an ongoing investigation and to this date your claim here is unfounded.
"Arab Spring, a euphemism for jihadist revolution" - The euphemism of your choice is not factual. It is nothing more than your opinion.
"Allies, while not perfect, protected the balance." - The Despots that tortured and terrorized the citizens of there countries, were and are much more than "not perfect". You may personally not have a problem with American tax dollars being used to support despots and dictators that terrorize and torture their citizens, but I would say that the majority of Americans would seriously disagree with you.
Your comments area man, were all talking points that have been promoted by the conservative media industry and their so called "entertainers" that pose as factual news casters. Sadly, your comments have proven David Frum's point in which he said: Republicans have been lied to and exploited by a conservative entertainment complex.

area man, head to your nearest bomb shelter, and stay there for the benefit of the rest of us Americans. Your Republican moral majority is a clearly outdated political platform.

All one has to do is look at the comments by "Earnest" on this thread to "area Man" and see why there is no going along to get along. I've see him on so many of the threads of a poltical nature and his mode is always attack and demean. There is no discussion. As for the conservative entertainment complex, Earnest, did you get that clever line from Chris Matthews? RT channel? Huffington Post? Bill Maher? Or any of the dozens that call themselves the media?

Susan, my comments are not meant to be "attacks or demeaning"? My comments to area man are ones that raise questions as well as point out opinion vs facts.
Truth and facts are not in any way demeaning, unless one wants to pretend that facts and truth are not important. Personally, I prefer facts and truth and will provide that information anytime I read someone promoting unfounded conspiracy theories, spouting personal opinion as though they are facts, and/or promoting lies and political propaganda that have been factually disproven.
Further, if you take a closer look at my comments, you will find that I actually noted that David Frum,(a conservative) is the one that actually said that the Republicans have been lied to and exploited by a conservative entertainment complex.

Earnest, nice try. Benghasi(sp) cover up now established fact. Four Americans dead. bHo elected. bHo thinks that Islamist radicals in control of the Middle East makes us safer. Yes, I'd rather have the prior middle east leadership in charge. Not perfect but our allies. Israel is in great peril. bHo is leaving them out to hang. As far as the Middle East is concerned, we have never been in as much peril. As bHos energy secretary has declared, 9 dollar per gallon gas is the goal.
