Charlestown Historical Society Celebrates 40 Years of Working to Preserve the History of Charlestown Township

On Saturday, September 21st, the Charlestown Historical Society will hold its Annual Patrons Dinner Fundraising Party at Marshall’s Half Hill Farm, located at 2226 Charlestown Road.  Paul Marshall, an Executive Chef, purchased this Historical property in 2012 and has begun an extensive restoration of the house and barn which includes farming and raising livestock on the property, bringing it back to its original agricultural use.

The Marshall’s are strong proponents of community service and have donated many Gourmet, Farm to Table dinners for the benefit of many local non-profit groups such as the Great Valley Nature Center, Upper Main Line YMCA and pictured here with Mitch Stewart, Charlestown resident and purchaser of a dinner offered to benefit Charlestown Elementary School PTO at their silent auction party last year.  The Marshall’s generosity has increased these groups’ ability to maximize profits which is an integral part of the success of these events. Paul has partnered with the Great Valley School District and has constructed a vegetable garden at the Charlestown Elementary School which will be utilized by the children to promote healthy food choices and sustainability.

The Marshall’s believe that eating is an agricultural act. Currently they are involved in the Charlestown Municipal process to establish a Culinary Institute/Farm to Table/Agricultural use which will allow a Farm to Table dining experience as part of the proposed interactive, culinary workshops for adults and children.  This proposed use not only supports the many benefits of eating seasonal, locally grown foods but it also celebrates, nurtures and honors the Charlestown community’s agricultural heritage.
