VILLA MARIA CLUB VOLUNTEERS AT SPECIAL OLYMPICS

On Friday, November 1, 2013, Villa Maria Academy High School’s Respect Life Club volunteered its services at the Special Olympics Pennsylvania Fall Festival, which was held at Villanova University. More than 1,000 athletes competed in bocce, long-distance running/walking, power lifting, roller skating, soccer, special projects and volleyball. Villa Maria volunteers assisted with soccer drills and soccer games. Special Olympics provides sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Stephanie Taylor, moderator of the Respect Life Club, said, “The girls were pleased to be involved in such a warm and joyful event.” Villa Maria’s Respect Life Club promotes reverence for all stages of life and organizes service projects. The club’s service component reflects the school’s mission, which endeavors to empower young women to live by their faith and use their talents to advance, contribute and make a difference.
