Construction: 202 to Drop to One Line

A major Malvern roadway will be undergoing work this weekend.

The following information comes from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation:

Beam setting operations at the Route 401 Interchange in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, will impact travel on northbound U.S. Route 202 Friday night and Saturday morning (Sept. 27-28), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.

This work is part of PennDOT’s $168.7 million widening and reconstruction of 6.5 miles of Route 202 between the Swedesford Road/Route 252 Interchange in Tredyffrin Township and the Route 30 Interchange in East Whiteland Township.

Northbound Route 202 will be reduced to one lane approaching the Route 401 Interchange from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 27-28). In addition, northbound motorists will encounter intermittent 15-minute traffic stoppages  approaching Route 401 from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 27-28).

The overnight lane closure and stoppages are required to allow crews to safely set nine concrete beams on the Route 202 north bridge over Route 401, which is being widened to accommodate northbound and southbound traffic during upcoming widening and reconstruction on Route 202 south.

Route 401 traffic will also be restricted and stopped in both directions at the Route 202 overpass during the overnight beam setting operation.

All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

If weather causes the postponement of the Friday night work, the beam-setting -- along with the associated northbound lane closures and stoppages -- will be rescheduled for 10 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 28-29).
