Night Road Work Scheduled for 202

Lane and ramp closures are planned, PennDOT said.

The following was provided to Patch:

Nighttime lane and ramp closures are scheduled March 3 and 4, weather permitting, on U.S. Route 202 in Chester County for the assembly and placement of two overhead sign structures in East Whiteland and Tredyffrin townships, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

This work was previously scheduled for Feb. 19 and Feb. 20 but was postponed due to severe winter weather conditions.

PennDOT contractors will erect two new sign structures on Route 202 as part of the project to widen 6.5 miles of the highway to six lanes between the Route 252/Swedesford Road Interchange in Tredyffrin Township and the Route 30 Interchange in East Whiteland Township. The widening is being performed under two construction contracts totaling $168.7 million.

From 8 p.m. Monday (March 3) to 5 a.m. Tuesday (March 4), northbound Route 202 will be restricted to one lane between the Route 29 and Chesterbrook Boulevard interchanges as crews complete drainage installation and construction of sign structure supports. There also will be a single traffic stoppage on northbound Route 202 for up to 15 minutes on Tuesday (March 4) between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m.

In addition, the Route 202 north off-ramp to Route 29 North/Matthews Road in East Whiteland Township will be closed from 10 p.m. Monday (March 3) to 5 a.m. Tuesday (March 4) as part of the planned operations.

During Monday’s (March 3) ramp closure, motorists heading to the Route 29 North/Matthews Road Interchange from northbound Route 202 will exit at Route 401, turn right onto Route 401 (Conestoga Road) east and then left at Swedesford Road to reach Route 29.

On Tuesday (March 4), northbound and southbound Route 202 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between the Route 29 and Chesterbrook Boulevard interchanges from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday (March 5). At least two traffic stoppages of up to 15 minutes will occur periodically on northbound and southbound Route 202 on Wednesday (March 5) from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. to allow crews to erect and secure the overhead sign structures.

Motorists are advised to use extra care when traveling through the construction zone and to expect slowdowns during overnight operations.

The widening of Route 202 from north of the Route 401 Interchange to the Swedesford Road/Route 252 Interchange is being performed by the Richard E. Pierson Construction Company, Inc. of Woodstown, N.J., under a $105.4 million contract. Construction is expected to finish this fall.

Construction on Route 202 from north of Route 401 to Route 30, including work at the Route 401 Interchange, is being done by Alan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County. The $63.3 million contract is scheduled to finish in 2016.
