Paoli Battlefield Awarded Grant for Documentation, Research

The $58,500 grant comes from the National Park Service's American Battlefield Protection Fund.

The Paoli Battlefield Preservation Fund has been awarded a $58,500 grant for continued study of the Battle of Paoli, the Preservation Fund said.

The grant, from the National Park Service's American Battlefield Protection Fund, is the second grant awarded to study the battle in the past four years, said Bruce Knapp, president of the Paoli Battlefield Preservation Fund.

This grant will be used to solidify the findings of the study from the first grant, Knapp said, including the fact that the battle stretched over five municipalities and involved some 4,000 troops.

The new grant will also be used for historical and archaeological research.

"These steps are vital as a basis for potential future recognition as a National Historic Landmark," Knapp said.
