Part of Conestoga Rd. to Close Briefly Next Week

The short- term detour takes drivers through another construction zone.

Route 401 (Conestoga Road) will be closed and detoured at the U.S. Route 202 interchange in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, from 8 p.m. Monday (Dec. 16) to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 17) for bridge demolition activities, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.

 

PennDOT’s contractor will remove three beams from the southbound Route 202 overpass, which currently is being rebuilt as part of the widening and reconstruction of the southbound side of Route 202 between Route 401 and Route 30.

During the closure of Route 401, eastbound Route 401 travelers will be detoured south on Route 202 to the Business Route 30 exit, then left on Route 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and right onto the ramp to Route 202 north to return to Route 401. Traffic on westbound Route 401 will be detoured north on Route 202 to the Route 29 North (Great Valley) exit, then right on Matthews Road, right on Route 29 (Morehall Road) and right on Swedesford Road to the ramp to Route 202 South to return to Route 401.

This operation is weather dependent and may be postponed until the following evening in the event of rain or snow.

 

In addition, southbound Route 202 will be reduced to a single lane between the Cedar Hollow Road overpass and Route 29 Interchange in Tredyffrin and East Whiteland townships on Wednesday and Thursday (Dec. 18-19) from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for construction at the exit ramp to Route 29 North/Great Valley. The ramp will remain open during to traffic.

 

Overhead bridge construction will reduce Planebrook Road in East Whiteland Township to a single lane at the Route 202 overpass on Monday through Friday (Dec. 16-20) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flaggers will direct an alternating lane of traffic through this work area.

 

The operations are part of PennDOT’s $168.7 million widening and reconstruction of 6.5 miles of Route 202 to improve travel and safety between the Swedesford Road Interchange in Tredyffrin Township and the Route 30 Interchange in East Whiteland Township.
