Relay for Life Is Just 3 Hours This Year

Diane Hauser, a Great Valley mother of a cancer survivor, will speak at the May 18 opening ceremony of the annual walking fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

Relay for Life, an annual walking event that raises money for cancer research, will return May 18 to Great Valley High School a bit leaner this year.

The event has been shortened to three hours, down from 18 hours last year, organizer Lisa Harper said in an email:

We will still keep the important Relay traditions including walking, music, games/activities, food & drinks, survivor celebration, and a powerful luminaria ceremony. [...]
People may either register a team or as an individual to walk during the event, or they may just show up anytime to walk for as long as they'd like and visit the Relay team's stations that will be spread out around the track.

The event will take place at Great Valley High School's track on Saturday, May 18, from 6 to 9 p.m., according to the Patch calendar listing:

We hope the shorter duration this year (6-9PM) will encourage and allow you to come out and support this important mission - to honor cancer survivors, remember those we have lost, and raise funds to help put an end to cancer forever.

On Saturday, the Relay for Life car wash at Penn Liberty Bank earned $925 for the American Cancer Society, Harper said.
