Two-Story 'Movie Palace' Coming to Uptown Worthington

The Cobb Theatre is part of Phase III of Uptown Worthington, and will open in October 2015.

A two-story, 85,000-square-foot "movie palace" is coming to Uptown Worthington, the Malvern complex that already houses a Wegmans and a Target.

O'Neill Properties has signed a long-term lease with Cobb Theatres, the company announced last week.

"This theater will be the largest luxury theatre built in the United States in the past 30 years," O'Neill Properties said in a statement.

What does a movie palace entail? Aesthetics modeled after the Academy of Music, including a 60-foot lobby and outdoor dining balcony. A "cinebistro," with a chef-inspired menu and fully stocked bar that includes "exotic cocktails."

"We want every guest who enters the Cobb Theatre to experience the glamour of the 1920’s movie palaces mixed with today’s Hollywood splendor,” said Robert M. Cobb, owner of Cobb Theatres.
