U.S. 202 Ramps to Be Closed at Route 29

The ramps will be closed and detoured for about two months, PennDOT said.

The following was provided to Patch by PennDOT:

Two ramps along southbound U.S. Route 202 will be closed and detoured at the Route 29 Interchange in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, for approximately two months, starting this spring, for ramp and highway construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced.

PennDOT said the upcoming temporary ramp closures will expedite the placing of new ramp and highway pavements along the southbound side of Route 202. The ramp closures will allow construction to be done in a single operation rather than multiple mini-stages.

From Monday (April 28) to June 16, the Swedesford Road on-ramp to Route 202, which is located east of Route 29 across from Liberty Boulevard, will be closed and detoured. The posted detour will take motorists west on Swedesford Road to the on-ramp to Route 202 South.

From May 12 to July 14, the Route 202 South off-ramp to Route 29 South/Malvern will be closed and detoured. The posted detour will take southbound Route 202 motorists off at the Route 29 North/Great Valley exit. Drivers will then turn left at Swedesford Road and follow it to Route 29.

This work is part of PennDOT’s $105.4 million project to expand four miles of Route 202 to six lanes from north of the Route 401 Interchange to the Route 252/Swedesford Road Interchange. Construction began in April 2011 and is scheduled to finish this fall. Richard E. Pierson Construction Company, Inc. of Woodstown, N.J. is the general contractor.

PennDOT currently has two projects in construction to expand 6.5 miles of Route 202 to six lanes from just south of the Route 252 Interchange to the Route 30 Interchange to enhance travel and reduce congestion.
