'Downton Abbey' Is Most Requested DVD in Libraries

But it's beaten by a book that has 228 'holds' in the Chester County Library System.

What are the most popular items in Malvern Library? According to librarian Rosalie Dietz, the three books with the most holds, or requests, in the Chester County Library System are:

A week in winter by Maeve Binchy  228 holds….67 copies
Six years by Harlan Coben:  190 holds….74 copies
The Dinner by Herman Koch: 106 holds…26 copies

The three most popular DVDs in the system:

Downton Abbey, Season 2:  186 holds….32 copies
Downton Abbey Season 1:  127 holds….40 copies
Argo:  126 holds….32 copies

Dietz shared the county-wide info because holds are placed and filled systemwide, meaning a book from Malvern can be requested by and lent to a patron in another library.

If you're wondering why A Week in Winter is so popular, it's not because of an Oprah selection or movie adaptation.

"Maeve Binchy died in July 2012 after completing this book," Dietz said. "She is a popular writer, and I think the fact that this is her last book accounts for the holds."
