Grab & Go Kids Planner: Mushroom Festival and Summer Picnic

Sept. 8 - 14, 2011, edition.

Not sure where to take the family over the next week? You might enjoy a movie in the park, head to the library for storytime, or design pottery together at The Painted Plate. The Kennett Square Mushroom festival promises plenty of entertainment for everyone, and West Chester Railroad is having a weekly Summer Picnic Special.

Movies in the Park: Megamind

  • Where/When: Caln Municipal Building, 253 Municipal Drive, Thorndale, September 9, 7:30 - 9pm.
  • Why Go: Caln Township offers fun, family-friendly movie viewing events throughout the summer. Free lawn chairs are available, and movies begin at dusk.
  • Price: Free.

Kennett Square Mushroom Festival

  • Where/When: N Union Street & W State Street, Kennett Square, September 9 - September 11.
  • Why Go: The Kennett Square Mushroom Festival is an annual event that features vendors, live music, children’s entertainment, and more. Come celebrate Kennett’s number one cash crop, rain or shine! For more information on hours and entertainment, visit the Mushroom Festival website.
  • Price: $2 per person 

Bedtime Storytime at Chester County Library 

  • Where/When: Chester County Library, 450 Exton Square Parkway, Exton, September 12, 7:30pm.
  • Why Go: Bedtime Storytime is a family-oriented late-night reading session that involves music, books, and movement.
  • Price: Free.

Summer Picnic Special

  • Where/When: 230 E. Market Street, West Chester, September 11, 12:00pm.
  • Why Go: Enjoy an afternoon train ride along Chester Creek Valley, and pack a picnic lunch to enjoy on the picnic grove.  Toddlers ride free!
  • Price: $12.50 for adults, 10:50 for children.

 Family Night at the Painted Plate 

  • Where/When: , September 11, 6:00pm - 9:00pm.
  • Why Go: The Painted Plate serves free pizza while you enjoy an evening of family arts and crafts. Pick out a piece of pottery from the collection, paint it with supplies from the art store, and your work will be fired within a week.
