Grab & Go Planner: Build a Box and Motown Revisited

Aug. 4 - 10, 2011, edition.

This week is packed with interactive learning opportunities for children, including storytime, diversity appreciation and cultural workshops at the Chester County Libraries. Prefer to have fun outdoors? West Goshen Community Park is hosting a family-friendly Motown-themed concert on Sunday.

Home Depot’s Kids Workshop

  • Where/When: 609 Lancaster Pike, Frazer, or any other Home Depot, August 6, 9:00am - 12:00pm.
  • Why Go: The Home Depot Kids’ workshops give children a chance to learn the basics of building, painting and tool safety.  This Saturday, the kids will be building a pencil box.

  • Where/When: , August 10, 9:30am - 5:00pm
  • Why Go:  Reading is fundamental, so come join in on the fun!  Reading times are 9:30am for children age 2 + adult, 10:30am & 1:30pm for children age 3-Kindergarten, and 4:00pm for babies-23 months + adult.
  • Price: Free.

Summer Concert Series at West Goshen Community Park

  • Where/When: West Goshen Community Park, Fern Hill and N. Five Points Roads, West Chester, August 7, 6:30pm.
  • Why Go: This event is part of the West Goshen Community Park summer concert series that features some of the best local musical acts. This week’s theme is Motown Revisited. The event’s rain site is in the West Chester East High School Auditorium.
  • Price: Free. Dry good donations (soap, deodorant, shampoo, detergent, etc.) are encouraged.

  • Where/When: Phoenixville Public Library, 183 2nd Avenue, Phoenixville, August 8, 10:00pm - 11:00pm.
  • Why Go: Join the Raindow is an interactive storytelling event that encourages children to celebrate diversity. This event is for children ages 2-6. Children 2 and under are welcome as spectators with parent supervisors.
  • Price: Free. Call 610-933-3013 to register. 

First Friday For Kids: Italy

  • Where/When: Paoli Library, 18 Darby Road, Paoli, August 5, 4:30pm - 6:00pm.
  • Why Go: First Friday for Kids is the Paoli Library’s free program that teaches children about various cultures in countries such as Japan, India, and Italy.  This week, children age 7-10 will learn about Italy.
