Local Author Nominated for National Award
Shannon Wiersbitzky has been nominated for the William Allen White Children's Book Award for her debut novel, published in 2011.
East Whiteland resident Shannon Wiersbitzky has been nominated for a national book award for her debut novel, The Summer of Hammers and Angels.
Hammers and Angels tells the story of Delia, a West Virginian whose mother was struck by lightning and whose home is in danger of foreclosure.

Established in 1952, to honor newsman William Allen White, a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Literature, the award is the oldest readers’ choice book award in the United States and is considered one of the most prestigious book awards decided by young readers.
Wiersbitzky next book, a sequel titled What Flowers Remember, is due out in November.
