Community Event-Firehouse Subs Kicks Off Fire Safety Month

Firehouse Subs® Kicks Off October's Fire Safety Month Restaurant Sells Medallions to Raise Money for Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation
Frazer, Pa. - Firehouse Subs is kicking off October's Fire Safety Month on Oct. 1, 2011 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a day of community fun including firefighter demonstrations, family activities, fire safety tips and delicious steaming hot subs. October is recognized nationally as Fire Safety Month, every year Firehouse Subs restaurants participate by encouraging patrons to support local heroes by purchasing $1 or $5 medallions. Honoring their commitment to fire safety, guests purchasing a $5 medallion will receive a Duracell® 9-volt battery for their home smoke detector. Funds raised will benefit the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and provide much-needed funding, resources and support to public safety entities. The Firehouse Subs founders' 200-years of firefighting heritage inspired the formation of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving life-saving capabilities of fire, police and EMS personnel. "We are fired up for Fire Safety Month and want to raise awareness, as well as funds, for deserving first responders," said Robin Peters, Executive Director of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. "Through donations raised in our restaurants, we have given more than $3.1 million in lifesaving equipment to fire departments, police departments and EMS across the country. We hope to raise a record amount this October, to give back to our first responders." The Foundation's funds for equipment are raised through individual donations, pickle bucket sales and canisters placed by registers. Each restaurant recycles leftover, five-gallon pickle buckets and sells them to customers for $2. Donation canisters on register counters explain the non-profit's mission and collect spare change, while the round up program allow guests to literally "round up" their bill to the nearest dollar. The Fire Safety Month fundraising campaign kicks off at all 446 Firehouse Subs locations from Oct. 1-31, 2011.
The event takes place at 235 Lancaster Ave. in Frazer, Pa.
Firehouse Subs®, founded in Jacksonville, Fla., by former firefighting brothers Chris and Robin Sorensen, is a 446-unit fast-casual restaurant chain. Subs offer oversized portions of premium hand-sliced meats and cheeses, steamed to make the flavors burst, then piled high with fresh produce atop a toasted sub roll. Restaurants reflect the authentic firefighter heritage, as well as the founding family's 200 years of firefighting service. Firehouse Subs was named "National Chain" winner of the National Restaurant Association's (NRA) Restaurant Neighbor Award for their overall dedication to community service. In 2005, Firehouse Subs created the non-profit Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, Inc., a 501 c (3) and is dedicated to improving the life-saving capabilities of emergency services in communities served by Firehouse Subs by providing funding, resources and support to deserving public safety entities. Over the past six years, the Foundation has donated more than $3.1 million in equipment and resources. For more information on Firehouse Subs in Frazer and Fire Safety Month, visit www.firehousesubs.comfacebook.com/firehousesubs or follow on twitter at @firehousesubs. ###
