Malvern Farmers Market Opens Saturday

The new market in Burke Park will be a 'producers-only market,' meaning vendors must grow, raise or make what they sell.

Malvern Farmers Market will open for the first time Saturday in Burke Park, featuring produce grown within 40 miles of the borough.

The market will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine. It is sponsored by Kimberton Whole Foods—which is planning to open this year on East King Street— and Anthony's Italian Pizza and Restaurant, according to the market website.

Malvern Farmers Market Set to Open May 4th!

Malvern Farmers Market’s Grand Opening is scheduled for Saturday, May 4th. The farmers market, new to Malvern this year, will be held every Saturday from 9AM - 1 PM, rain or shine. It will be located in Burke Park, in the heart of the Malvern borough, between Warren Avenue and Channing Avenue, just off of King Road. Parking is readily available in the municipal parking lots and on-street.

The Malvern Farmers Market will feature 25 farmers and food artisans, all located within a 40 mile radius of Malvern. A farmers market is all about produce - quality, local produce - and Malvern Farmers Market offers the cream of the crops when it comes to produce. Local farms including Canter Hill Farm, Down to Earth, Frecon Farm, Kimberton CSA, Longview Center for Agriculture, and Two Gander Farm will bring fresh, seasonal produce, most grown using organic growing methods.

Wyebrook Farm, Birchrun Hills Farm and Cantor Hill will offer beef, veal, pork, lamb, poultry and farm fresh eggs. Shellbark Hollow Farm and Birchrun Hills Farm will bring their award winning cheese and a variety of dairy products to the market.

There will be no shortage of baked goods. Saint Peter’s Bakery and The Daily Loaf create wholesome artisan breads, in addition to other baked goods. For sweets, My House Cookies will offer up cookies, pies, muffins, and more. Winner of Cupcake Wars on the Food Network and local cupcake celebrity, Thais de Silvia of Dia Doce, will be tempting market shoppers with her amazing cupcakes. And for a real treat, two local residents will offer their baked specialities. Laura’s will treat you to her biscotti and granola, and Deb from MacDougall’s Victory Cakes will tempt you with her coveted family recipe. And last, but certainly not least, Market Day Canele will teach you just how delicious a perfectly baked canele can be!

Need more reasons to shop at the market - here they are: fresh made pasta and sauces from Vera’s Pasta, FreshAPeel Hummus, small batch gelato from Jenny and Frank’s, decadent chocolates from John and Kira’s, gourmet popsicles from Mompops, locally sourced pizza from Take Me / Bake Me, beautiful local preserves from the Old Mill, fresh cut flowers from Rustic Bunch, handmade soaps from Ellen April’s, and finally something for your favorite four legged pals, dog treats from Veronica’s Doggie Delights.

Stroll the market, enjoy the musicians (new talent always welcome to apply), and invite the kids to participate in the children’s activities. During the market season there will a number of food drives to benefit local food cupboards. And, there’s always room at the market for local non-profits to educate the community about their mission. The market is a wonderful opportunity for farmers and small food producers to sell their product directly to the consumer. Making that connection between the consumer and farmer or food producer is an important aspect in educating the public about the local food system. Not to mention, Malvern merchants are looking forward to the opening of the farmers market as it will bring new shoppers to the borough.

The Malvern Farmers Market will also be participating in Malvern Blooms, Sunday, May 5th. Stop by to meet some of the vendors, and watch a few demonstrations, including a demo by Wyebrook Farm on butchering a steer.
