Shire Cancels Atwater Move, Will Stay in Tredyffrin

The company will stay in Chesterbrook Corporate Center, according to Philadelphia Business Journal.

Shire Pharmaceuticals has reversed its decision to move to Atwater Corporate Center in East Whiteland, Philadelphia Business Journal is reporting:

[E]ven though the company had signed a lease on space that was to be constructed at Atwater, there was a provision that allowed it to back out of the deal without penalty. That deadline was today.

Tredyffrin Township Board of Supervisors chairwoman Michelle Kichline released a statement Monday applauding the company's decision:

“The Board of Supervisors is pleased that Shire has decided to remain in Tredyffrin Township. Not only is Shire a world class pharmaceutical company; it is an outstanding community partner. Shire is a long time major sponsor of our Fourth of July fireworks and our summer concert series. The Township will continue its efforts to attract and maintain businesses, like Shire, that help improve the quality of life in our community and provide jobs to our residents.”

The arrival of big firms like Endo Pharmaceutics and Shire were cited as reasons for East Whiteland's fiscal strength during last year's budget discussions in the township. Endo relocated to Atwater from Chadds Ford in 2012.
