Oscar Night in Malvern: Walk The Red Carpet, Get The Star Treatment

Malvern businesses Kiss And Makeup and Restaurant Alba will team up to bring a black-tie gala to Malvern for the Academy Awards, Feb. 26.

At some point, most of us have dreamt of living the life of a celebrity: wearing beautiful gowns, walking the red carpet, being chased by paparazzi, and of course, getting all the cool swag stars get just for being famous. On Oscar night, locals can get a taste of the celebrity life at Kiss and Makeup's , which runs from 6 to 11 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Restaurant Alba in downtown Malvern.

The event celebrates the inclusion of Kiss And Makeup's brush cleaner in the Oscar swag bag for the non-winning nominees in five Oscar categories this year. That means that, along with 15 others, either Glenn Close or Meryl Streep is going home with a makeup product from Malvern in their consolation bag on Feb. 26. (More on this in an upcoming Malvern Patch article.)

Kiss and Makeup's black tie event will feature a tunneled red carpet that runs down King Street, Hollywood-style lights and photos, red carpet commentary from Main Line Flair's Caroline O'Halloran, champagne and hors d'oeuvres in conjunction with Restaurant Alba, an Oscar swag bag, a silent auction benefiting Dress For Success, and more.

"When we found out we'd be [featured at the Oscars], we thought, 'Let's celebrate—let's do something cool.' And then we thought, 'Let's celebrate Malvern,'" Kiss And Makeup co-owner Darci Henry said. "We figured that we're only going to do this once… of course, if we become successful, we can keep doing things like this all the time."

For Henry and co-owner Lisa Di Caprio, doing this just once means going all out —and going all out means that, in addition to all the benefits and swag above, and gift cards to Kiss And Makeup and Restaurant Alba, the event's silent auction will feature some pretty amazing items.

Attendees could go home with a signed jersey from Shane Victorino, a signed guitar from Hootie and the Blowfish's Darius Rucker, a signed drumhead from Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, or a signed hockey stick from Claude Giroux. Besides the celebrity signatures, there are also certificates for some romantic getaways, an in-house restaurant meal and more.

All the auction proceeds will go toward Dress for Success of South Central Pennsylvania, an organization that empowers economically disadvantaged women by providing them with professional clothing and career development tools. The organization, based in Henry and DiCaprio's hometown, will also receive $25 from every ticket sold.

Tickets to the red carpet event cost $150. Kiss And Makeup requests RSVPs as soon as possible, but they can be made through Friday, Feb. 24. Wednesday, Feb. 15, however, is the last day to be entered for a drawing for a free dress by the Van Cleve Collection. (Attendees are automatically entered in the drawing upon payment.)

"This gala has just taken on this [life of its own]," Henry said. "It's going to be a celebration. … I'm proud of our town, and I hope this event is something people will be talking about for years to come."

If you want the rare chance at some star-style treatment, the $150 tickets can be purchased online. Through the website, visitors can also donate directly to Dress For Success or purchase Kiss And Makeup's Oscar-worthy brush cleaners.

Update: According to their Facebook page, they just extended the dress raffle
to Feb. 24 also.
