King St renovation project

Buldozers move King street

Welcome to my blog.  If you travel on King street in Malvern, you have noticed a major change in the landscape.  The demo work has begun on a total revitalization on the East end of town. Directly across from our photography studio, we get to watch the work happen every day. I am so excited to know that within about 18 months I will be looking across the street to a vibrant new and beautifully done housing and retail developement.  Of course there are always mixed emotions about such a huge change, but as a life long resident and business person, I welcome the change. As a child I rode my bike from my greeentree neighborhood into the borough of Malvern, passing Staats oil company and Amerigas and Fisher feed. While they were great industrial neighbors, the town has evolved into much more of a bustling people place. I will keep you posted regularly in the progress, but with the spring weather, do yourself some good, and walk the sidewalks and see for yourself.

Great Blog. And great idea. I was kind of hoping someone would do one of those time lapse photo things. As a lifetime Malvern resident, I welcome the change and can't wait for some new restaurants. Thanks.

Very cool idea to document the progress. Great things are ahead.

I wonder why they repainted the road lines on King on the newly paved section. They added all the white no parking lines on the right hand side. To do that they had to move the double yellow more to the left. Why didn't they think of that to begin with? Now it looks messy. And no, i'm not OCD on road paint.

Larry, are you talking about West King?
Larry Sybrandt March 30, 2012 at 09:43 PM
Hi Pete. Yeah, West King... It was just a general question unrelated to the renovation.

Hi Larry, Glad you asked. The borough is going to reinstate parking on one side of West King between Crest and Malvern avenues. The painting you noticed might be a prelude to that. I've been meaning to post about this. Thanks for the reminder.

Another waste of money by the borough. I would love to see a final tally on the amount of money spent on that stretch of road. It's been paved twice, and repainted another two times. Not sure that a residential area like that needs marked parking spaces. Not to mention the fact that it looks ridiculous Can't wait till all the septa commuters see it and start parking there. Also, what are they going to do in the winter when it snows ? My guess is they haven’t thought about that yet.

That wasn't a comment on the East King project, but rather the West King St.....EPIC FAIL !

I used to play in the house that is in the begining segment. It was the Barber's House. Mr. Barber was a roofer and his daughter was Jackie. We went to Malvern Elementary together back in early 70's. It was a very nice house way back then.

do we know what stores are coming to the new area yet?
Pete Kennedy (Editor) June 09, 2012 at 12:53 PM
Aside from The Whip tavern, nothing specifically. I'll try to find out this week if any more businesses have committed.

Anyone have information on who the realtor is leasing these new apartments? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!
