Can't Shake The Rain Chances

Another unsettled week with more chances of rain is in the forecast as Phillyweather.net's Tom Thunstrom shakes the water off from yesterday's storms to write this week's forecast.

After almost two inches of rain Saturday, Mother Nature is not apt to allow a calmer, more subdued weather pattern for the coming week.  Yeah, another active round of weather is in the offing for the coming  days and we’re stuck on the fence between warmth to the south and lingering chill over Canada.

A frontal boundary marks the airmass transition and it will set up shop over us starting tomorrow, with chances of rain and thunder starting as soon as Monday evening, again Tuesday, and again on Wednesday.

Round one, on Monday evening, may provide some showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder that passes through the region with a weak wave of low pressure. The first wave's best chances for showers may be to our north, but one can’t rule out a chance for a shower or storm around here. This wave will nudge the stalled front south and allow a second wave to track on east for Tuesday with occasional showers and rumbles of thunder. Tuesday’s rain will be a bit steadier and more widespread, but not heavy in nature.

The third wave is a stronger area of low pressure that will lift through the Great Lakes, pulling the frontal boundary north for a day and allowing for a warm Wednesday as temperatures approach 80 degrees ahead of the low. Evening thunderstorms are possible before the low pulls the front back south as a cold front. It’s possible we could have some strong, if not severe, storms in some spots Wednesday afternoon and evening as the low has some pop with it.

After Wednesday, we settle down for a couple of days and experience a bit of a reprieve from rain as the front settles across Virginia or North Carolina.  However, another storm system lurks for…you guessed it…Saturday.   More rain and thunder are possible for the end of the week, with some computer guidance suggesting another soaking event for us in the Mid-Atlantic.

Temperatures will bounce around all week – 60’s on Monday, near 60 Tuesday, then a one-day flirtation with warmth before we cool back into the mid-60’s for Thursday and lower 60’s on Friday.   Not terribly cool weather, but certainly not ideal spring weather given the chances for rain on more than one day in the coming week.
