Code Orange: Air Quality Alert in Effect

Children, the elderly and those with health conditions are warned to avoid activity outdoors.

A "code orange" alert for air pollution has been issued Wednesday as of 3:25 p.m. The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission issued the alert for the entire Philadelphia area.

According to the alert:

A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations with the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. ... The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.

Sensitive groups include:

  • children
  • the elderly
  • people suffering from asthma
  • people suffering from heart disease
  • people suffering from lung diseases
