Surprise Utility Pipe Delays Darby Road Work
The road was supposed to close Feb. 11 for the replacement of a drainage pipe, but the work has been postponed indefinitely.
Update Feb. 15 9pm: According to an email from PennDOT representative Charlie Metzger, the roadwork has been postponed indefinitely due to "utility conflicts:"
When crews started excavating they discovered a utility pipe that was not marked.
Update Feb. 11 4pm: Darby Road was open Monday, Feb. 11, and the signs were removed. We've reached out to PennDOT to see if the work has been rescheduled.

Darby Road will be closed to traffic between Devon Road and Route 252 in Easttown Township starting Monday.
A PennDOT press release said the closures will occur weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Feb. 4 to 23, but signs at the site say Feb. 11 to 22.

Darby Road is a popular shortcut for motorists looking to avoid the Route 30-Route 252 intersection, which is where traffic will be detoured during the closure.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will improvement drainage on Darby Road between Devon Road and Route 252 (Darby Paoli Road) in Easttown Township, Chester County beginning Feb. 4 by replacing a deteriorated drainage pipe. Darby Road will be closed weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Feb. 23.
During construction, Darby Road through traffic will be detoured over Route 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and Route 252 (Leopard Road). Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area.
This work is part of PennDOT’s $11 million project to repair and resurface 12 state highways in Chester County.
Allan A. Myers, LP, of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $11,039,350 project. The project is financed with 100 percent state funds. All work will be completed by August 2013.
