Flash Flood Watch Issued for Chester County

More rain on already saturated ground could lead to dangerous conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Chester County in effect until 5 a.m. Thursday morning.

A series of storms is forecasted to move through the area well into the evening hour bringing with it the potential for heavy rain.

According to experts, nine to 11 inches of rain has already fallen in recent storms on portions of the Philadelphia metropolitan area, leading to ground saturation and dangerous conditions.

With more rain in the forecast, saturated ground can no longer absorb more water causing it to run-off and form rapidly moving currents otherwise know as a flash flood.

For now, the weather service has only issued a watch, which means there is the potential for severe weather, but it isn't imminent.
