Flood Advisory Issued for Monday Evening

After weeks of intense heat and little rain, the region could see powerful downbursts, dangerous lightning and gusting winds Monday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Chester and Delaware Counties as well as most of Southeastern Pennsylvania. The advisory expires at 10:15 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service Philadelphia office, radar indicated areas of heavy rain developing at 6:20 p.m. The weather service advisory says slow moving areas are capable of producing one to two inches of rain (in short periods of time) "with locally higher amounts."

The weather service says "the heavy rain will result in flooding in areas of poor drainage and along some roadways. Minor flooding may also occur along some streams and creeks."
