Flood Watch and High Wind Warning Issued for Malvern Area

Winds gusts up to 60 mph will accompany one to two inches of rain.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the Malvern area, as a low-pressure system originating from the lower Mississippi Valley reaches the east coast early Friday.

A high wind warning will also go into effect from 2 p.m. Friday until midnight. Sustained wind speeds of 20 to 30 mph will peak with 60 mph gusts.

The flood watch will be in effect Friday morning through Saturday morning.

"Flooding is more probable along smaller creeks and streams, and in areas of poor drainage where the hydrologic response is always greater," according to the NWS.

Though the rain is expected to end by Friday evening, creeks and rivers will likely crest Saturday as runoff and snowmelt accumulates.

The extreme weather will likely cause power outages and tree damage, and driving could become dangerous, particularly on bridges and overpasses, according to the NWS.
