Malvern Borough To Receive $64K in Grant Funds

The money comes from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission for 'Transit-Oriented Development.'

Malvern Borough is slated to receive $64,000 in grant money for the purpose of increasing density near the Septa station.

The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) awarded a total of $1.2 million to 24 municipalities in Philadelphia and surrounding counties. 

The money comes via the DVRPC's Transportation and Community Development Initiative (TCDI), which supports planning and redevelopment efforts. According to a TCDI press release (PDF):

Malvern Borough, Malvern TOD - $64,000

The Borough of Malvern proposes to develop a transit development (TOD) plan for the area within a quarter mile of the Malvern SEPTA regional rail train station. This plan will focus on applying higher densities for redevelopment of properties located north of the train station, as well as include some analysis on properties located to the south for a future study.

The following nearby grants were also announced for fiscal year 2012:

  • $86,800 for Chester County for a Route 1 Housing Affordability Study.
  • $90,000 to Phoenixville Borough for a Zoning Code Update.
  • $50,000 to Tredyffrin Township for Commercial Zoning.
  • $36,500 to Media Borough for Comprehensive Plan, including green building initiatives.

The DVRPC is a planning agency that provides services to member governments, and the TCDI is one of its grant distribution entities. According to its website, "the DVRPC was formed by an Interstate Compact through legislation passed by the Pennsylvania Legislature in 1965, as reenacted and amended in 1967, and by the New Jersey Legislature in a series of conforming acts passed between 1966 and 1974."
