Nighttime Route 202 Lane Closures Aug. 7-11

The East Whiteland portion of the highway will be reduced to two lanes from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

From PennDOT:

Northbound and southbound traffic on Route 202 will be reduced from two lanes to one between the Route 401 and Chesterbrook interchanges in East Whiteland and Tredyffrin townships, Chester County on Sunday through Thursday (Aug. 7-11) from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for road construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.

Route 202’s southbound right lane and northbound left lane will be closed during overnight hours for shoulder reconstruction, concrete barrier placement and crossover construction. The contractor’s schedule is weather dependent. In the event that inclement weather postpones construction one night, the contractor will work Saturday, Aug. 13 from 12:01 a.m. to 10 a.m.

PennDOT’s contractor is rebuilding Route 202’s southbound right shoulder and median to prepare the southbound side of highway to carry two lanes of southbound and northbound traffic starting later this year.

Motorists are advised to allow additional time for travel during construction because travel delays will occur. The posted speed limit in the Route 202 construction zone is 45 miles per hour.

This work is part of PennDOT’s $105.4 million project to add a third travel lane in each direction along four miles of Route 202 from just south of the Route 252 Interchange in Tredyffrin Township to just north of the Route 401 Interchange in East Whiteland Township. Richard E. Pierson Construction Company, Inc. of Woodstown, N.J. is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

PennDOT is rebuilding and expanding 6.5 miles of Route 202 from just south of the Route 252 Interchange to the Route 30/Exton Bypass Interchange under two construction contracts. The second contract, which runs from just north of the Route 401 Interchange to the Route 30/Exton Bypass Interchange, is in final engineering design. Construction is scheduled to start in early 2013 and finish in late 2015.
