Patch Picks: Saint Patrick's Day

Choose from a variety of events as you celebrate the Celtic tradition.

Top o' the afternoon to ya! If you're looking for a good way to spend St. Patrick's Day, consider some of these local options.

, located in Frazer on Route 30, across from the Lincoln Court Shopping Center, is offering authentic Irish music and even some Irish dancers to enhance the spirit of the holiday, as well as a menu featuring Irish foods.  As usual on Thursdays, there will be a karaoke jam for customers who have the nerve to work their pipes.  More information is available on the website: http://www.mckenziebrewhouse.com/

in Willistown will add a few items to its menu: corned beef, cabbage, shepherd’s pie and lamb stew. As always, a selection of Irish beers will be on tap, including Guinness, Smithwick's and Harp. No Irish entertainment is scheduled, but the TV screens will be showing college basketball.

in East Whiteland will feature live, non-Irish music. They are also running drinks specials on Irish car bombs ($6), Guinness drafts ($4) and Jameson shots ($3).

, located at 18-22 West Gay Street in West Chester, well-known for its distinctly Irish milieu, is featuring Irish musical acts including The Malarkey Brothers, from noon to 6 p.m., and Jamison, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.  Throughout the day, from noon to 7 p.m., WMMR (93.3 FM) will be broadcasting live, hosted by Jaxon. The Note, located at 142 E. Market Street in West Chester, will host a mechanical bull competition, perhaps an allusion to the "Irish bull." There will be a DJ spinning, though The Note has yet to disclose who will be standing in. The doors will open at 7 p.m., with a $5 cover charge at the door. West Chester University students, however, will be in luck. With a WCU ID, the cover will be reduced to $3.  More information is available on the website: thenotewc.com.

, located at 3 W. Gay St. in West Chester, is offering a characteristically low-key evening for those who would prefer a quieter Saint Patrick’s Day atmosphere. From 5 to 11 p.m., chef Dan Bethard will be serving up oysters and dry stout, a common Irish combination that has survived the ages.  More information is available on the website: www.ironhillbrewery.com/westchester/

, located at 197 Bridge St. in Phoenixville, is hosting a celebration lasting all day and into the evening, featuring live musical entertainment. Starting at 10 a.m., the first band to play will be Celtic Spirit. At 5 p.m., it will be The Why O’s, and Midnight Social will be capping the night off starting at 10 p.m. More information is available on the website: www.mollymaguiresphoenixville.com.
