PennDOT Plans Restrictions on Routes 202, 401

Motorists should expect delays mostly between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Nighttime Lane and Ramp Restrictions Scheduled on Route 202 in Chester County  

King of Prussia – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that motorists will encounter nighttime travel restrictions next week on Route 202 for paving and other construction activities between Route 29 and Route 30 in East Whiteland Township, Chester County.

The overnight operations are being done under two PennDOT projects, valued at $168.7 million that will improve travel and reduce congestion on Route 202 by rebuilding and expanding the highway to six lanes between the Swedesford Road and Route 30 interchanges.

The contractor’s schedule is:

  • On Monday through Thursday (May 20-23), Route 202 north will be reduced from two lanes to one between the Route 30 and Route 29 interchanges from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning;
  • On Monday through Thursday (May 20-23), Route 202 south will be reduced from two lanes to one between Route 30 and Route 401 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

In addition, the on-ramp to Route 202 north from Matthews Road (Route 29 Interchange) will be closed and detoured from 8 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday (May 23-24) for reconstruction. During the closure, traffic will be detoured to the on-ramp to Route 202 north from Swedesford Road.

Lane closures also will occur on Route 401 between Moores Road and Mill Lane on Monday through Thursday (May 20-23) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for road and bridge construction.

All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Crews are currently working to widen Route 202 from north of the Route 401 Interchange to just south of the Swedesford Road Interchange as part of a $105.4 contract. Richard E. Pierson Construction Company, Inc. of Woodstown, N.J. is the general contractor. The project is expected to finish in mid-2014. 

The work at the Route 401 Interchange and on Route 202 from north of Route 401 to Route 30 began in March 2013 and will continue through 2016 under a $63.3 million contract to Alan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County.
