Route 202 Ramp to Route 29 to Close for Months

Route 202 North Off-Ramp to Route 29 South in Chester County to Close June 18 for Reconstruction

Ramp Improvement Part of $105 Million Route 202 Expansion Project

A ramp closure is scheduled along northbound Route 202 at the Route 29 Interchange as part of the ongoing $105 million project to widen the highway to improve travel and reduce congestion in Tredyffrin and East Whiteland townships, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.

The Route 202 North off-ramp to Route 29 South in East Whiteland Township will close Monday, June 18 for reconstruction. The ramp will reopen in late August.

During the ramp closure, a posted detour will direct northbound Route 202 drivers to exit at the Route 29 North/Great Valley off-ramp, then turn right at Matthews Road and follow Matthews Road to Route 29.

PennDOT’s contractor will rebuild the off-ramp in conjunction with widening four miles of Route 202 from four lanes to six from just south of the Chesterbrook Boulevard Interchange to just north of the Route 401 Interchange.

PennDOT began construction to rebuild and widen this northern part of the Route 202, Section 300 Corridor in April 2011. This project, which is expected to finish in June 2014, is phase one of PennDOT’s two-phase program to widen 6.5 miles of Route 202 between the Chesterbrook and Route 30 interchanges.

Richard E. Pierson Construction Company, Inc. of Woodstown, N.J. is the general contractor on the first mainline construction project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

Construction to widen Route 202 from just north of the Route 401 Interchange to the Route 30 Interchange is expected to start in spring 2013 and finish in late 2015. The cost to expand and rebuild this stretch of Route 202 is estimated at $83 million.
