Where Were These Photos Taken?

They were shot in the Malvern area in the 1950s.

The barn pictured in the above photograph is not around anymore. The photo was taken around 1956-57. The accompanying photos, all likely taken in the 1950s, show the working farm of which the barn was a part.

Can you guess where these photos were taken? Extra credit if you know what happened to the barn. Submit your answers in the comments, and we'll post the answer with a current photo next Wednesday.

King rd across from Carol lane.

.....actually the barn might be the current August Wendall store.

This looks like the current site of the Walmart / Sams shopping center in Exton. That appears to be the (renovated) silo that is still standing out front of Walmart. If so the barn still stands accross from the parking lot.

Corner of Goshen Rd. and Providence Rd. If it is the location I think, the barn is still there.

I'm going to guess that this was the barn that burned down on Church Road in the 2000's. MJD JR: I work at Wendell August in Exton/West Whiteland, and 1) it's in the wrong township for this Patch article and 2) the notes accompanying the photos state the barn in these photographs no longer exist. The historic barn at Main Street Exton, which houses Wendell August, was restored and indeed still stands. That being said, I will still take a closer look at the building when I go in today.

The historic barn that Wendell August inhabits is too small to be the one pictured above.
MJD JR March 01, 2012 at 04:48 PM
Just a guess based mostly on the silo.

I thought it was a good guess! That's why I wanted to check it in person, first.

I think it was the property on the right side of Rt. 252 just about a mile or so before Rt. 3....it may have belonged to the DuPont family? Not sure who owned it.
Karen Van Allen March 02, 2012 at 10:19 PM
So what is the location?
Pete Kennedy (Editor) March 02, 2012 at 10:27 PM
We'll post the answer with a current photo on Wednesday, one week after the original photo was posted.

Looks like it is along Swedsford Rd. maybe near Rt29. I would guess its the Jacob's farm.

This is a total guess---possibly the farm that became the "Down East" development along Swedesford Road in E Whiteland? There remains a lovely old house and a stone barn off Winding Way. Down East was built in the late 50's/early 60's. The photo with the high tension lines was a clue and they run between that area and rt. 30 to the south...but again, just guessing! The photos are great, love the one with the little girl leading the huge cow.

The house sure looks a lot like the one at the corner of 401 and Swedsford rds.
