The Whitehorse Road bridge was one of four state bridges that were repaired by PennDOT this winter under a $283,007 contact that began in January. Each bridge sustained structural damage late last summer due to impacts from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.

Construction was completed earlier this winter on the Creek Road bridge over a branch of Brandywine Creek in East Brandywine Township, Chester County; Mill Road bridge over the east branch of Naamans Creek in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County; and the Tohickon Hill Road bridge over Gaddes Run in Plumstead Township, Bucks County.

Grace Industries, Inc. of Bath, Pa. was the general contractor on the project.

PennDOT closed Whitehorse Road in the interest of public safety on Sept. 17, 2011 after an inspection discovered severe undermining beneath the bridge's stone support abutments. The Whitehorse Road bridge is located between the intersections of Whitehorse Lane and Fox Chase Road.
