Whitehorse Road Bridge to Reopen by April

The bridge over Crum Creek was damaged by Hurricane Irene.

Repair of the Whitehorse Road bridge in Willistown, which has been since September 2011, is set to begin within the next few weeks. PennDOT expects to reopen the bridge by April.

The bridge, which spans Crum Creek near White Manor Country Club, suffered structural damage after Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. It is one of four bridges being repaired as part of a $283,077 emergency contract the state awarded to Grace Industries, Inc.

"We are currently working to revise the environmental permit for the bridge construction. Construction on the Whitehorse Road span is expected to take about a month to complete, weather permitting," PennDOT spokesman Gene Blaum wrote in an email.

Work began recently on another bridge in the contract, the one carrying Route 282 over Brandywine Creek in East Brandywine Township. All work on the four-bridge contract is scheduled to be completed by April 13.
