East Whiteland residents Keith and Hillary Schmid started the run in 2009 after their daughter, Zane, died from SMA before her first birthday.

Money raised at the run will go toward the purchase of special car seats, which can cost up to $1,000 each, for families who can't afford them. Some of the money will also pay for the distribution of resource guides for families who have just discovered their child has SMA.
