Pennsylvania Academy of Performing Arts Presents "Song of Farewell"

The Pennsylvania Academy of Performing Arts Concordia and Chamber Choir will present its spring concert series Songs of Farewell, featuring Faurs Requiem, in two choral concerts, under the direction of S. Katherine Shealy, assisted by Christopher G. McGinley.

The program is the second installment in a three part, yearlong concert series called A Singer's Journey. Songs of Farewell will include music that explores this theme of departure from both a somber and uplifting viewpoint. Chamber Choir will perform three madrigals by Claudio Monteverdi that express the ache and despair resulting from losing a lover. Dan Forrests Entreat Me Not to Leave You, which borrows the text from Ruth 1:16-22, beautifully depicts Ruths unwillingness to abandon her mother. A setting of the Greek folk song Dance of Zlongo arranged by Carol Barnett recalls the fierce bravery of the women of Souli, who bid farewell to the world rather than be enslaved by the enemy. The program will culminate with a featured performance of Gabriel Faurs well-known Requiem, which captures both the sorrow of losing loved ones while also celebrating departure from earth and transcendence into Heaven. This performance will feature accomplished organist Charlie de Mets, as well as soloists from Concordia.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and $5 each for groups of 10 or more. Tickets may be purchased at the door or online at www.PAperforming.org.
