Harvey Brown Was Longest Residing Willistown Resident

Brown, a farmer and custodian, passed away in September.

Harvey Brown lived at a house on Duffryn Avenue for 89 years, making him Willistown's "longest residing resident." He passed away Sept. 9 at the age of 95 after a battle with leukemia.

Brown, who attended Green Tree Elementary on its first day open, ended up working as a custodian at the school and other schools in the district. According to the obituary:

He often commented the he was in the first grade, on the first day, in the first seat of the first row. After leaving school Mr. Brown helped to support his family by farming in Willistown Township. He later became Roadmaster of Willistown Township and eventually retired from Great Valley School District where he served for many years as custodian both at Green Tree Elementary and General Wayne Junior High. He met his wife, Eleanor, on New Years Eve of 1950 during a dance at "The Old Orchard", they were married in 1952 at Otterbein United Methodist Church in Mont Clare.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor, daughter Anita Hamilton, sister Esther Ann McFarland, two granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. Read the full obituary here.
