PECO Prepares for Next Round of Winter Weather

PECO Press Release

PHILADELPHIA (February 12, 2014) – PECO’s Emergency Response Center remains fully activated, tracking the third potential significant winter storm of the month. PECO is closely monitoring weather conditions and preparing for a potential Nor’easter tracking toward the area late this evening and into tomorrow. With the region just recovering from the heavy snow and ice, customers should be aware of their surroundings as weakened trees could be impacted by strong winds and additional precipitation.

Throughout the day today, in advance of the Nor’easter, PECO will be working to remove trees, tree limbs, and other vegetation and debris from its overhead electric lines as part of the effort to prepare for this next storm. Some customers may experience brief interruptions to their electric service while crews complete this work.

With the significant heavy wet snow and potential for freezing rain, PECO is preparing for potential impacts to company’s electric system. PECO will utilize the additional crews that are currently working with us throughout the day to make permanent repairs and harden the system in advance of the coming storm. In addition, we will utilize any of the visiting utility company crews that can assist in restoration efforts.
