East Whiteland Fire Engine Goes into the Shop

E5-5 is undergoing repairs in a Lancaster County garage.

Fire Line Equipment, a company in East Earl, Pa., that sells and services firefighting equipment, is working on one of East Whiteland Fire Company's apparatus.

The company posted a photo gallery on its Facebook page:

We would like to welcome East Whiteland Fire Department's 1993 E-ONE to our shop! Wish it was under better circumstances, E5-5 was towed into our facility after a fire pump transfer case failure.

According to East Whiteland Deputy Fire Chief Eric Nowaczyk, the engine has been out of service since about July 24. While in the shop, it will undergo repairs to the fire pump, replacement of the gear box and an assessment of damage that may have occurred to the drive shaft.

"[T]he truck being out of service is an inconvenience, however we have 2 additional engines available in the station and additional units, should they be needed on an incident, are automatically dispatched out of our neighboring stations by Chester County Fire Board when appropriate to make up for E5-5 being out of service," Nowaczyk said in an email.

One Facebook commenter admired the 19-year-old engine's condition and paid the fire company a compliment:
